It started with a photograph (below) taken by my co worker, Julia Rendleman, at a Relay for Life event sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

From this introduction, John and Carolyn shared their story with Julia:
Carolyn Crochet’s great nephew was photographed delivering his Christmas wish list while perched upon Kris Kringle’s lap last year at Coteau-Bayou Blue School.
Carolyn, who saw that photograph a few weeks later, quickly realized that the jolly man with the white beard was the childhood friend she had last seen some 54 years ago.
“When we were children, we were best friends,” Carolyn, 67, said. “The love I had for him as a child never died.”
She and John, also 67, reconnected in January, quickly making up for lost time.
He proposed on their second date.
She said yes.
In full spirit of their reuniting, John and Carolyn held a Christmas themed wedding, complete with elves, gift giving and a christmas-tree cake. More photos at houmatoday.com.
For this assignment for The Fayetteville Observer, @ourlaboroflove was a source of great inspiration. Our Labor of Love is a team of photographers, based out of Atlanta. I’ve always admired their ability to balance their personal style with their ability to tell a story, or meet the editorial constraints of a client. I have done some wedding photography as an assistant, and I think that the more I work on my own, I’d like to achieve their sense of balance that they bring to an assignment.
For Valentines Day, I was to photograph Jonathan Strickland and Ashley Stewart, who are getting married this summer. Their dads were both firefighters; Strickland is a firefighter, and Stewart sever as the vice president of the auxiliary for the Stoney Point Fire Department. They says they “always knew they’d marry a firefighter.” I met them at Pearces Mill Fire Department where Strickland works.
The rest of my photographs with them are on flickr.
