Black Friday in Houma was my first Black Friday as a real life journalist, batteries not included. My mind, as usual, is a mess of goo, trying to separate the saccharine sweet consumerism from the wholesome honey moments. Let me try:
Above, Kade LaBlanc of Houma carries a 32-inch TV set to his car, a TV set he says is for grammy. Next, a the Best Buy sales team engage in a serious pep rally before their biggest sales day of the year. These guys are legitimately passionate about helping customers find what they want. And last, three friends chatted, enjoying the extra kick the adrenals were providing as they waited in line.
Of course, this event was another involuntary annual exercise of hyper-consumerism. These ritual expenditures are only fabricated by an industrial process that creates things to be obsolete as soon as they’re on shelves; and slave mentality which is rewarded for short term savings, nevermind the long term losses. Sometimes I think I would enjoy this time of year more if I hadn’t gone to Catholic school. Bah humbug.
